Vol.3 Synthetic Chemicals - Why Natural Skin Care??? - Part 1

Did you know that up to 60% of what is applied to the skin soaks through to the blood vessels where it is processed by the liver? It may contain synthetic colors and chemicals that can trigger allergic reactions or other harmful side effects which you may not notice. Most of us don't realise how toxic it really is. Pull out your cosmetics or skin care products and look whats written on the label......Have you been applying any of these chemicals to your skin?

ALCOHOLS ( ISOPROPYL ALCOHOLS, SD ALCOHOLS)
Synthetic alcohol such as 'isopropyl alcohol' is a petroleum compound. It has a strong odour and is a cheap raw material. The "SD" alcohols (the SD stands for "specially denatured") are also not natural. They are grain alcohols with various substances added to them to prevent their being rebottled and sold as beverages i.e. SD alcohol 40.

ALDEHYDES
Volatile compounds often used in perfumes and in preservatives which can be toxic and cause allergic reactions.

ALGINATES
These chemicals are used as binders and emulsifiers. They are synthetically compounded and have caused many allergic reactions.

ALUMINUM CHEMICALS
(aluminium allantoin ate,aluminium carbonate, aluminium chloride) There is a whole list of chemicals used in cosmetics that contain aluminium (e.g. aluminium allantoin ate, aluminium carbonate, aluminium chloride). Aluminium can build up in the body through the use of cosmetics, food and cookware that contain this metal. It has been implicated in some forms of senility. AVOID IT!!

AMPHOTERIC COMPOUNDS
(synthetic surfactants, amphoteric coconut betaine, alkyl amino propionates, sodium alkyl sulphates and triethanolamine/(TEA)). They are very drying to hair and skin. Cause allergic reactions and their toxicity is unknown. AVOID THEM!!

BUTYLATED HYDROXY ANISOLE (BHA) / BHT
BHA and BHT are the synthetic antioxidants which often used to retard rancidity of oils in foods and cosmetics.
THEY ARE TOXIC AND CAUSE ALLERGIC REATIONS! AVOID THEM!!

2-BROMO-2-NITROPROPANE-1, 3-DIOLE
A preservative and solvent used in cosmetics. There are many allergic reactions to this synthetic chemical.
IT IS TOXIC!

Carbomer 934 & 40

A resin used to thicken, stabilize and prevent freeze damage of cosmetics. There have been allergic reactions to this. TOXIC!

CARBOXYMETHYL CELLULOSE
Cellulose gum is the sodium salt of the polycarboxymethyl ester of cellulose. It is used as an emulsifier in cosmetic creams to help provide uniform viscosity. It can cause allergic reactions in some people.

CETEARYL ALCOHOL
A combination of fatty alcohols which consisting chiefly of n-hexadecanol. When produced synthetically it is less expensive and has a slight toxicity.

COCOMIDE DEA
A mixture of ethanol amides of coconut acid used for a lather-builder and thickener in shampoos and other cosmetics. Coconut acid is compound with synthetic chemicals and can cause allergic reactions and desiccation of skin, scalp and hair. Toxic!!

COCOMIAD PROPYL BETAINE
Derived from the Salts of coconut oil and combined with synthetic chemicals. It is commonly used in cosmetics as a foaming and cleaning agent. It causes many allergic reactions and dryness to hair and skin. Toxic!

DECYL OLEATE

This is a mixture of coconut and synthetic chemicals that is used to help absorb cosmetic oils. It causes many allergic reactions and skin irritations. Its toxicity is unknown, especially when absorbed into the body with the other chemicals
